  • Pom X Husky - Possible?

I saw this ad on Gumtree for a litter of Pomeranians x Siberian Huskies.

    Is that even possible?!

pomeranian x siberian husky puppies - Pets, dogs / puppies - Gumtree Sydney Region

They say they won't send pictures - which I find odd.

    Thoughts?

Crossing any breed is possible, even a Chihuahua and a Great Dane.

The mother would have to be the larger dog and would be inseminated at the vets through AI.

Ridiculous way to waste a lot of money.

They would of course be tapping into the designer dog market and making "tiny huskies"... people are going to be very disappointed when the puppies grow up.

Horny bitches have been known to lie down for their tiny doggy friends.

however the other way about - I'd consider abuse as the bitch would likely be killed by having huge puppies.

I heard the most rediculous statement on - you wouldn't believe it - National Geographic channel some weeks ago. They said that some breeds are becoming new species (rolleyes) as it is not possible to breed for example a chihuahua to great dane, which is Bull*** Of course it is. But the outcome could be dangerous if GD mated with Chi, but it does not mean Chi cannot concieve with GD or other way around by whatever means (even artificially). As for large dogs it's much easier and less painfull - they lie down and they mate easily.
Respect and you shall be respected. Animal is always right.

Yeah, I just recently found this ad so I tactfully emailed them saying that I hoped it was an accidental pregnancy. She said it was and she doesn't know how it happened and that the mother is the pomeranian.... Still trying to figure out the logistics of that. She said she is selling them for less then it is costing her. Interesting breed, she is lucky that the mother survived. At least, I am guessing that she survived.... :-/

How on earth did she even survive the mating fgs, the boys bits would be almost as big as her!!!

                confirming details

Hi there we just wanted to confirm the details.

The pom is actually a standard size not a miniature and the father is a small/medium size husky.

No harm was done to mother during and after birth and she is in perfect health.
The puppies are are very small and are absolutely gorgeous.

The reason for no pics is because there was a guy that went to see them and took photos, he then sold them.

As the breed is rare and the first in the country, searching the net only displayed one pic.

Pups have found wonderful homes with 2 still remaining for sale.

It was not intentional, the pom was an inside dog due to a baby being born and being very sick (no immune) the pom had to move outside.

During heat she was tied up and the father in a dog run, somehow he managed to get to her without knowing and by the time the pregnancy was acknowledged it was too far so unsteady of putting the poms life at risk doing an abortion the pregnancy went through to be a success, although costing a lot of money to ensure the safety of both mum and pups.
Very responsible outcome for the situation

Thankyou for the details selecta, sounds like an unfortunate situation.
Hopefully the owners will have the sense to desex the Pom now. (just an FYI there is only one size of Pom, no such thing as standard and miniature)

                  EDIT

The reason for no pics is because there was a guy that went to see them and took photos, he then sold them.

Hang on, if they still have 2 pups for sale, that doesn't explain the lack of pictures. I'm still going to guess the pups are either pretty strange looking, not as small as the ad would suggest or it is a scam. You never know these days.

I am going to agree with CL, one size of pom....they are not poodles.

Also, it's not a "rare breed"...it is a rare cross breed and the reason it is a rare cross breed is because most people are sensible enough to keep their large breed entire males away from their tiny breed entire females when they are in heat.

I would love some pics to see though as I reckon they would be gorgeous wee babies. Particularly if they had the pom look and fur but the beautiful colouring of the husky

Actually if you do your research like I have you will find that poms were originally a large dog they have been bred over the years to a miniature size, as far as keeping then apart if anyone owns a dog they will know that during a time of heat the scent is strong and no matter how well you tie up your pet there is always a risk.
Just yesterday our neighbour was saying how a jack Russell from 2 streets away got into there yard and tied with there pom.

No wonder people think I am a cow lately with ammunition like this.

Yes, all purebred dogs were different from what they are today once upon a time.

But a Pomeranian is a breed... there is only one Pomeranian size and only one Pomeranian breed standard.

One, uno, singular, not several, not plural, just one size... Australian National Kennel Council

Yes during a bitches season a male will do pretty much anything to get to her, including scaling wall, breaking through doors, gates, glass windows etc etc, so the question is... why wouldn't you get the Pomeranian spayed if it did not fit breed requirements anyway, you have already said it was far too big to fit within the height limit for the breed?

Who needs research to know that all dogs started off differently from the way they are now?

We arent talking about how pomeranians were then.

In regards to keeping them apart, I am again going to agree with CL. Why isn't the bitch speyed? Or why didn't they separate them completely. Tyign a bitch in heat up in the back yard is not goign to stop her being mated. If they didn't want to spey her, she should have been inside with them.

I guess everyone has their own preference when it comes to desexing, personally I recommend it whereas my neighbour on the other hand thinks differently.

Also certain circumstances also can effect the situation, at the time of heat a 4 month old baby being a high risk for leukemia was more important, long hospital stays etc.
The thought of desexing just wasn't an option.
so people can say it was careless but if you do everything in your power to separate them what more can you do.

Over all like I said it was a great success and the most important thing is those puppies having wonderful loving Homes.

From the feedback I received 569 emails in one week someone should really look into this cross breed, animal network have said they both have amazing qualities that counteract amazing with each other.

First of all I must say, the most sweetest people and gorgeous little boy.

I was completely informed about the puppy in everyway possible, if you see the mum and dad you would definitely understand.

As for our new family member, she is a spunk! I will figure out how to post a picture of her up on this site.

We couldn't have found a better pet to suit our family, she looks like a husky but just a itty bitty thing, we are in love!

The poor family did go through alot with all of this especially from jealous and immature people that had nothing better to do with their time.

I hope that they can now relax and focus on their beautiful baby boy again!
