Thread: American Staffy X Border Collie

  1. #1

    Default American Staffy X

    Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could help us?
We are looking for an AMERICAN STAFFY X BORDER COLLIE - OR - AMERICAN STAFFY X ENGLISH STAFFY
We are based in Victoria and are willing to travel.
Maybe you know of someone that breeds them? Or maybe where we could look?
I would love to hear from you.

    Kind Regards,
    Laura

This is what I had in mind - feedback welcome

    Hi,
The only place I would be buying a crossbreed is the RSPCA.
People that breed crossbreeds on purpose or by accidents are referred to as Backyard Breeders(BYB). Its not something you want to support. Do not buy a puppy over the internet, newspaper or trader magazine.
I sort of get a little tired of explaining these sort of things over and over(not your fault) so here are some links on the forum to help you with your puppy search.

Jeez what are the odds! A 3 month old black and white Bull Arab in Burwood.

Buying a puppy/dog should never be an impulse decision. Please take the time to read the links. And don't base your puppy search on looks. I don't know how well informed you are on BSL, but when owning an Amstaff its something you have to clearly understand.
We have a few Amstaff/ Pit Bull owners on the forum, perhaps they'll come along and you can have a chat.
Also, no two crossbreeds are the same.

Both your pics look like ordinarily bred amstaff types. You won't find anyone reputable breeding those sorts of crosses, they will either be accidental or the product of someone trying to make a few bucks from the hapless and unwary.

Thanks everyone, keep the information coming!

It is definitely not going to be an impulse purchase hence my post on the forum and the last month of research done.

I will continue to tick all the boxes right up until I find a puppy that is right for us and our capabilities.

    Will checkout all the links.

    Thanks again!

As the owner of 2 Border collies I have no idea why you would want to cross a BC with a staffy anyway.

They are both common breeds so you might try BC or staffy rescue groups, they often have various crosses. However as others have said, if you find one make sure it is what you want in temperament and energy levels.

    I found this interesting.
Volhard Dog Training and Nutrition: Behavior and Training: Behavior

how to choose a puppy - by temperment - not appearance.

My evil hound is pretending to be a "mostly 5s" but is actually a "mostly 1s or 2s" ie don't get suckered in by all that submissive stuff, she will take over the second you leave her the opportunity. She will be sleeping on your bed and you will be sleeping on the couch.

Don't have someone that can doggysit? We are going away for xmas and our two are coming with us, but when we get home we are then going away over new years for 5 days, my folks are doggysitting for us.
