Hi Matty, best bet would be to start contacting breeders now. Maybe attend some dog shows and even the Ekka next month to meet some potential breeders.

Give Leanne Elliot a ring at GUARDVILLE Bullmastiffs. 07 54862948 oe Email : lelliot@vtown.com.au

Chances are she wont have a red but she's in the loop with a lot of other B.M breeders and show people. She should be able to help.

Thankyou Sean I've been contacting a few breeders but its funny I barely get a response from most, I suppose they probably get a lot of tyre kickers, I've kept the breed before and know what a wonderfull dog they are to own. I'll email Guardville and see if they can point me in the right direction.

    Thanks,

    Matty

Yeah, try calling her first Matty,

She had a few dramas with her email a while back. She's a nice lady but dont be surprised if she kinda grills ya right from the word go as she will suss you out which is kinda good in the long run.
Like you said they do get a lot of tyre kickers or blokes who want a tough gaurd dog....she might not be so helpful if she thinks you come across as one of these types. Be sure to tell her you have owned the breed before. Good luck mate, and yes, they are a wonderful breed. I've got a big fawn one lying on my bed with me right now wanting his belly rubbed.

Not one breeder returned my calls or emails when i was looking. Not one.
    I contacted 5.
So good luck with email/phone calling, you may need it.

Most breeders wouldn't look at me as a potential owner either, as i had no showing experience in Australia and they were desperate to grow their line and reputation.
All i could offer was a quality of life most dogs dream about. Hey ho. Not necessarily a qualification held in high esteem by those i contacted.
I felt like leaper when i was looking for/contacting breeders and was unsure why so many did not contact me back. It was breeders on here, that enlightened me to the fact that breeders want their dogs to go to show folks.

Not every pup in a litter is show quality and most go to pet homes. So it's surprising people are not getting emailes returned.

However I will say that I don't really like people who contact me via email regarding purchasing a dog. And I really hate the email that goes along the lines of - "I'm looking for a dog of a certain sex and of a certain colour and I'd like it at a certain time (unless you specify a reason, eg will be moving into our new home or will have returned from our long planning overseas holiday and are ready to commit to a dog, that sort of thing". Then they basically tell me nothing about themselves.

They normally get a short reply of "sorry I don't have any pups and are not planning any litters until 2013".

If they tell me more about themselves eg: about the family, size of yard, rent or owned, experience with the breed or similar, and a bit about how the pup will live, eg: dog will be crated of a night and allowed in the house when we are home, will be part of the family consisting of 2 adults and two children aged 4 and 11"

If I get an email like that I will then forward them the number of those breeders I know have or are planning litters in the near future if I'm not planning anything myself.

Good luck with your search. Unfortunately breeders get so many one line emails that you have to show them what you can offer one of their pups, not just that you are in the market for one.

Also a little tip, breeders really hate the colour thing, anyone that contacts me and states a colour gets a brief email response along the lines of I breed for quality and temperament, not colour, so sorry I can't help you"
