We have an English Mastiff pure bread bitch she is turning 4 in a month's time, she is 76kg which is a little overweight but there is a reason for that. 12 months ago nearly to the day she tore her cruciate ligament on her left rear leg we took her to our local vet (north Brisbane) and they advised she would need a operation to fixe the problem, although they hadn't performed this operation on such a big dog before they where more than confident to carry out the percedure, so we put our trust in them and gave the go ahead for the operation which was a TTA, at a cost of $3000. The recovery was long and still she is not 100% she has walked with a slight limp and if exercised too much she could hardly put her foot to the ground.
So 12 months on in our back yard on Friday night she heard something, she ran and turned sharply and her right rear cruciate has gone (gutted), back to vets, X-rays and examination we are now facing another operation, but this time the leg she was operated on 12 months ago is also not 100% so we are having to help her with a towel under her tummy.
The Vets have informed me the procedure they want to carry out this time was a TTO because they think the recovery will be a bit quicker compared to the TTA but the outcome will be the same, and the cost of this will be about $3500 plus the xrays and consultation we have already had at $450.
So I guess the question's we are asking is, has anyone gone through similar procedures one side going then the other, if so any information that would be helpful please share.
Does TTO heal quicker and is it stronger than TTA?
Does the price sound about right, they seem very genuine but you never know?
Any information would be greatly appreciated she is treated like one of the children and we are devastated of what has happened, she is a beautiful dog and doesn't deserve this.
