Bernie and Choppa Chop, maybe this is not a case of irresponsible ownership - lets re-examine it:-
1) Had the dog escaped - or did a tradesman leave a gate open. Conjecture either way.
2) Did the dog have any sort of visual identification - no visible tags at all. The collar was not damaged in any way to indicate that tags had been pulled of - but they may have been on a seperate ring on the leash connector thingy and got ripped off when he squeezed through the 6 inch gap in the owners fence, or pulled off when the tradie tried to grab the dog - again conjecture either way.
3) Was he microchipped - no micro chip showed up when scanned. Vets scanner sits on a docking station so the battery can not go flat. No conjecture here. You can have a dog chipped for $10 by council in this shire - ah! but then you have to have the dog registered.
Just had a call from the vet to say the owners have called them and will pick the old boy up this evening. He had a broken foot and various other contusions so maybe hit by a car - if that was so then the driver did not stop.
Hmmmm! maybe I should start a thread "Irresponsible Drivers".
