With 4 weeks to go before we can start looking for our dog/ puppy, I need to start planning.
I have started dog proofing. I cleaned out the laundry room, getting anything chewable and all chemicals out of reach, I've got all my craft/ sewing gear out of the way.
We already have a crate that we use for bringing the cats to the vet - it would fit a small/ medium sized dog, so that will do if we need it. The dog will sleep in this in our bedroom.
I also bought a playpen off ebay for like $40 - our house is fairly open plan, so the play pen will give the dog a space to play/ be confined, while the cats come to investigate and while we can't watch him (for the first few days at least, until we know if he's trust worthy!)
We can't confine him to the bathroom as this is where the cats litter boxes are and the laundry door doesn't close properly. Do you think I should put a baby gate on the bathroom so the dog can't bother the cats while they do their business?
I was thinking I should get a feliway diffuser for the cats, but they are really expensive - should I have one anyway, or should I wait and see what happens?
What else do I need to do or buy? I will need bowls and things, I know this. I can't buy collars or harnesses till I find a dog to fit them too.
Am I over thinking things? I tend to do that! I like to be well prepared.
I plan on getting most stuff online to save a few bucks, so I need to start ordering things now if they are to be here on time.
