So on my way home from the supermarket this afternoon i see this dog wandering across the road and watch it squeeze it's ass through a broken fence in what i assume was it's property & i remember laughing (cause it was quite funny, it got a little stuck) and thinking i might need to write the property owners a letter just to let them know there dog is wandering around, though it would be pretty obvious looking at the state of their fence.
Around 2-3 hours i took both Molly & Rexy for their afternoon walk, we have a park adjacent from our home that does a loop around the area (about a 40min walk) so 5 minutes into our walk i hear this growl, Rexy and i swing around, Molly hides between my legs and f%&* me it's that wandering dog! It starts lunging and carrying on at us and i was seriously freaking out, Molly was bloody useless (lol) and Rex was going crazy (he's quite dog aggressive & very, very protective of me) I let him go, partly cause i was getting friggin leash/rope burn & partly cause i knew he would give this dog a go & i was scared this dog was gonna get me. So they got into it, Molly is tying herself around my leg and i'm trying to find a bloody stick (dunno what i was gonna do with it, but i figured if it was gonna get me i'm gonna poke it's eye out) i find a stick, grab Rex's leash, start yelling and stomping at the dog waving my stick around. It started to back off but was still snarling and as i started to walk away it would follow. I ended up throwing the stick at it and it just sat and watched us walk away.
Scared the s%&! out of me. Made me realize i had no friggin clue what to do in those sort of situations. Was it wrong to let Rex go? Should i have yelled stomped around and acted like a big idiot or could i have gotten myself into more danger? And i'm seriously kicking myself that i didn't report this dog wandering when i saw it. It could have been some poor old lady walking her little fluff ball instead of me.
I went straight home, jumped in my car and got the address of the property i saw it going into earlier, rang animal management and reported the dog and my findings and the incident. Hopefully they get their fence fixed properly and nothing like this happens again.
