So, as some may know, Pippi is a wee escape artist. If she can find a way, she will get out.
I have been round the yard and I am pretty sure completely dog proofed it, unless she finally finds a way to fit her bum through the pool fence and go right down the back (she can get halfway through but gets stuck at her voluptuous bottom).
Lately, I have been leaving her out there free alot, and I just check on her regulary. Usually when I am too busy to keep an eye an her, I pop her on a chain - she doesnt mind and when called will quite happily come and have it attached to her collar. Anyway, as I said, I have been leaving her free.
This morning, OH got up at 7 and let them out then came back to bed, normally this would be a time when she would go on her chain. I didnt know they were out and as I was getting up at 9, the OH says "you better check if Pippi is still out the back". I got a bit pissy and said to him, you know she gets out if none is checking on her, why didnt you tie her up.
I look out the window and there she is, chilling with Barney in the sun.
Now, from what I have seen lately, she just isnt interested in getting out anymore it seems. So, I am not sure if she isnt interested, or if the smart ass is just pretending she isnt so I stop cheking her every 5 minutes and she can make a clean getaway LOL.
This also comes around the same time her recall (some may recall, she was super hard to teach this as Pippi does what Pippi wants to do) has become 100% (untested around dogs as she is dog aggressive but in othr situations). Sometimes we hang out the front and there are no fences, but we let the dogs come out there. There are only allowed to certain points, which they know and usually stick too. But Pippi will sometimes push her luck, but now, you say come, and she is right there. Even when Barney opened the gate the other dy and they ran up the driveway and onto the footpath, I said come and she was back before Barney.
So its almost like the recall and supposed lack of interest have come hand in hand.
Do you reckon dogs grow out of wanting to escape or what (Lennox NEVER did but he would always come home if I didnt find/catch him)?
Not an exciting story, but I am putting off doing housework and 100 loads of washing.
