ok, so my pup is going through a nipping/biting stage. He's teething so obviously his mouth's uncomfortable, he also does it when he's playing and just generally excited. He gets a stern 'NO' whenever teeth meet skin, however he's cottoned on to this and given the opportunity to think about biting or not, he won't actually bite your hand .. but he's very enthusiastic about flailing around an open mouth, sometimes with lips curled up and 'bites' at you instead of actually biting you. Should I be correcting this as well? He's doing it pretty much constantly unless he's quite sleepy or calm, but being a puppy it's more often that he's bouncy and thus bitey. Sometimes he'll be jumping around with an open mouth, launch at your hand, but nudge it with a closed mouth by the time he gets to connecting with it.. is he just trying to bend the rules and being a brat? He's got plenty of things to play with and chew on, but the biting/nipping has definitely escalated in the last few weeks. He does it to the cat too, the cat is very patient and puts up with a lot of it, but I'm correcting him for harassing the cat and tugging on his fur .. or not so much correcting, but calling him away and rewarding him for leaving the cat alone, and just being calm around the cat.
