I have her name was Jessie and I will never forget her...
About 15 years ago, I found what i think was a mastiff, maybe staffy x, I found her in a box by the side of a busy road with 1 other live pup and 5 dead ones, they were around 4 weeks old, and only heard a faint cry, to alert me to look in the box as i rode by on my bike.
This was at yarrawonga Vic where pig hunting was all the rage, and these poor x's were often bred, then discarded.
People used to call them Wilby specials, as ferals in the town used to breed babies and puppies prolificaly , and care for none...was very sad.
I raised them, found a home for one and kept the other, despite having no knowledge of these breeds, she grew to love our children, was friendly yet always watchfuly and would always keep an eye on my kids, Jessie was an amazing dog and we loved her very much.
But she always was quite nervous, and wary of strangers, never growled or bit though and seemed to take her queue from me if someone was ok or not.
We moved to Queensland to to a few acres and jessie, yogi and my cavs loved it, one day my children were
riding there bikes out on the mostly unused road beside our house when a neighbours rottweiler ran from its house and latched onto my 9 olds leg, effectivley biting a piece from his calf in an instant,
Jessie, who had always been dog friendly was there in a split second took the dogs attention away from my son by attacking it, and bit a huge chunk from its throat, it then ran back to its owners.
The owners never said anything as they had witnessed there dog attack the kids, and not sure if it lived or not, but jessie was my hero from that day on and my son needed 18 stiches in his calf muscle and still has the scars today.
But jessie dissapperared 2 weeks later, and other neighbours heard the rottie owners had taken her and done who knows what?
The kids and I were distraught. We looked for her for months hoping they had just taken her away and let her go somewhere, but we never found her, and we will never again be privilaged to own another like her.
We still miss you jessie xxxxxxxx
