The past two weeks, tracking down breeders, researching breeds and getting many headaches. It seemed that none of the breeds offered us exactly what we needed. Then, I finally found what I believe is the perfect breed for us...
But then I while filling out the puppy application form, I realised, I couldn't justify spending $2000 on a puppy when there are so many puppys waiting for homes in shelters - we don't need a perfect looking puppy, we won't be showing or breeding - we don't really care what it looks like. Picking a breed offers a certain amount of predictablility regarding temperament and that, but at the same time, each puppy has its own personality and may or may not follow that standard.
Mostly, my research has shown me, that a dog will give back what I put into it - so wether its a bitsa or a pedigree, it doesn't matter - I am determined to have a healthy, well socialised, well trained dog and it's my job to create that.
So, it will be a few months yet, but I will be stalking the local shelters and their foster carers to find my perfect puppy.
