I am well aware that i come from the other end of the scale (rescue)
In my opinion it is never ok to sell puppies and kittens from pet shops. For me this is very much related to the massive profits associated, the lack of care/aftercare and the fact that they rely upon impulse buyers and of course the $$$ heavily.
And YES they are geared for profit. It is in training inservices for pet shops.
A good Registered Breeder or Rescue would never allow any member of the public to waltz in and buy a puppy off the cuff.
You have extensive interviews, meetings, house checks and all vet work is done particularly for rescue dogs.
If everything is great you go through a trial period. And if all goes well the adoption takes place. You also have follow up support and guidence for the life of the dog.
There is an oversupply of dogs in this country and hundreds of thousands of great healthy rehomable pets are killed in pounds and shelters every day.
While pet shops and BYB continue to reap the rewards, rescue continues to clean up the mess. And a very small mess we clean up too...the majority are killed.
I for one am sick and tired of the "but" attitiude.
Good dogs are dying every day. There is not a thing anyone can do other than make the right choices NOW and choose not to support tosser breeders of any kind.
Isnt that enough to pull us all into reality mode? and to stop us all buying from petshops, in the trading post, over the internet or over the fence ???
Is that not enough for us all to take stock and move forward?
