So whilst i was in Thailand i asked mum to take Molly to the Vet as her vaccination was due. As soon as she walked into the room the vet said "geez she's really overweight"
Apparently she needs to lose 3kgs because he thinks she is close to diabetes. When she first came to me she weighed in at 14kgs, she now weighs in at 15.5kgs.
HER dinner is a relatively healthy dinner, always raw beef hearts and tongues. The problem is she double picks, she'll have breakfast, then when mum drops her two off she gets another feed. I've told mum to stop and to feed her two BEFORE bringing them over but it fell on deaf ears. Even in the weekend if i go out i'll feed her before taking her to mums and mum will feed her again. I also have a bad habit with throwing her the scraps of my plate, my OH likes to go to Mc D's and give her half a burger, if were watching movies and we have our goodies out (popcorn, chips, chocolate) she gets a portion of it too. I knew it wasn't right, but then i felt that was a way she knew i loved her.. this vet visit has been a big wake up and we've sprung into action.
Me and mum will be moving into a new big house together on thursday so that SHOULD solve the double dipping issue. All dogs now get fed what they would for dinner for breakfast after their morning walk and dry biscuits will be left out for them to nibble on during the day, i will look into getting a holistic dry food such as black hawk. NO MORE SNACKING on human food! she still hangs around when we are snacking on chips or whatever but she starting to get the idea that she's not getting any, it's been hard but i know it's for the best, and i know that denying her a chip or two doesn't mean she thinks i don't love her! I'm going to start throwing in some carrots and apples in their bowls and night as well, as see how that goes.
In the way of excercise they have always had more than most dogs. They get a 30 min walk in the morning, and a good 1hr and a half at the off-lead park with the ball (rex plays soccor and molly chases after him) as well as a quick walk around the circuit at the park. Weekend usually consist of going to the beach or a longer play at the park. I usually take Rex for the odd bike ride during the week but leave molly behind cause she's too slow, might have to start bringing her along again.
Does anybody have any other idea's to contribute? she's been on this diet for two weeks and still hasn't lost anything
