I took Banjo and a friends JRT x for a walk at the lake today. It's a safe area with no roads nearby.
I know there often are kangaroos around there, so we were keeping our eyes open so we could spot them before the dogs did. And my daughter did indeed see the first kangaroo in time for us to call the dogs and put them on the lead. That one kangaroo turned out to be one of a mob of about 30 at least.
Banjo nearly pulled my arm out of its socket pulling on the lead when she saw them. Thank god for the martingale collar. I managed to get her under control, though it was too late to try to do any "look at that" training.
My daughter had no problem holding on to the JRT who was yapping at the mob. But unfortunately she had attached his leash to his tag and he managed to pull himself loose. And ended up chasing the kangaroos in all directions. Probably much to the annoyance of the little group of tourists trying to take photos of them.
Fortunately he was too small to do damage. I was slightly worried he'd chase one into the lake and get drowned. But he came back unharmed.
