So I recently purchased a GSD pup which we are very very happy with. He has a wonderful temperament and is a very smart little guy.
I am ashamed to admit though, that I got him from what I now perceive to be a BYB. I have had dogs all my life, but until now the responsibility for anything but playing and feeding has never been my own, so I am quite uneducated on anything else to do with registering a dog and having "papers".
So, here's my ridiculously silly question - what exactly are papers? How do you get them? What exactly does having "papers" do for a dog? I admittedly should have done all this research beforehand but his purchase happened so quickly (I fell in love with him as soon as I saw him - big mistake, I know!) and I am just trying to do the right thing by him.
Thank you for putting up with my silly question. Any information will be appreciated.
