Yeah I have seen smaller dogs hurt bigger dogs, because the bigger dog gets caught by surprise and may not be a fighter at all. many dogs react badly to the "Siff arm" approach from other dogs.

Funny story, back a way when Tess was more "reactive" to dogs that bounced up and jumped up at her, there was staffie/cross/cross/ etc that was a real problem. He would take at any dog that showed any sign of adverse or dominant reaction to him, and cause quite a bit of strife. Yet he and Tess were the best of playmates and would bump each other and belly-up, to the point that I would get a little worried. But never a cross word between them! Because of his aggression, the other dog was both neutered and given calming stuff. Now he's fine with other dogs (although he does not play, just runs around) ......... and a useless play partner for Tess. shrug.
