Pets are forever
Lure coursing... near Virginia.
I know you - sort of - Frosty and I went the day you couldn't.
Seriously hoping we can do a bit more of that when the weather cools off. Even though we only did two runs - Frosty LOVED it. Exposed some serious fitness flaws though. Though I did notice the greyhound trainers only ran each of their dogs once - and ours would do each run twice - up and back so a second longer run was a bit hard...
I hope you enjoy this forum. It's not like the other one.
In hindsight, I never should have joined those other forums. I don't share their beliefs, and it wasn't like I didn't know that when I joined so it wasn't really fair to the people there. Still, I do hope that in time, that community learns to be more 'gentle' to people with different views from their own. They have no chance of changing the way they are perceived by the public (especially with all of the negative media attention) when they put so much effort into ostracizing themselves, and whilst there's a lot that's good about 'purebred' dogs, there's a lot that's not, and that needs equal consideration.
Anyway, won't go into all that, that's why I've left lol.
Am trying to get some photos up of Zoë (the ridgeback x dobe) - but I'm not the photographer my partner is
We still manage to offend sensitive souls - especially the ones that want an instant cav x beagle or similar - right now - and don't like it when we ask why. And we're getting better but not always that gentle with those who give up their dogs because they're moving interstate or some similar excuse - the sort of excuse that allows them to keep childen but the dog has to go. Though I suppose I ought to be madder at the rent rules. Then again I have an adorable friend (you remember the bull terrier), anyway - her neighbours should not be allowed to own pets (neglect), and he probably shouldn't be allowed to live with a woman (he is abusivie).
So sometimes the pets are better off without the owners. It just seems really sad that so many people think of their pets as disposable - and maybe that's why legal euthanasia of humans would be bad too. Anyway I digress.
How did you go with the dog pee kharma problem? I did find that story fascinating.
And we're only a tiny bit more gentle on the ones who want to breed their dog because they can or they think it would be good for the dog's life experience. We've been gentle enough to talk a few out of it. And those who arrive with the pregnancy already in progress - we help if they listen, especially if they're keen on desexing asap afterwards. But if they've done it on purpose - not so good. Too many people here have connection with rescue.
Anyway hope it goes better for you here. I will cross post the lure coursing details as they happen if you want. Although I'm sure you can still do that without the stalkers noticing.

After talking to a few people about it now, they just say it's because Sammy and I have a very strong bond. He is always watching me, interested in what I have to say and he understands a freaky number of words - the sport club were amazed in that I can very nearly have a conversation with Sammy, and he understands - it's just what he's interested in, more so than prey or food, he just cares about his pack. So if I'm unhappy, it really stresses him out. Someone from the other forums has a full sister to Sammy, and they are experiencing the same thing (not peeing on people but the super strong bond part).
We will definitely do lure coursing again once it's a bit cooler. To be honest I think Sammy would run now if I let him lol. He starts training again this week though so hopefully we can start coursing again soon too.
A belated welcome! Your dog looks and sounds gorgeous.
I think this is a pretty supportive community. We have our disagreements and discussions can get heated and people do get offended occasionally - me included. But we get over it and move on because I think we all have this love of our dogs and dogs in general in common, I think. I have a nondescript bitsa (really, I have no idea what she is, apart from canine) and I've never felt unwelcome here because of it. In the end a dog is a dog... With all their similarities and differences.
I think Frosty would love the schutzhund thing, but I suspect we can't do that and be a member of saca for agility - I have to choose.
I went and watched the SA superdogs at the new dog park opening (Medindie Road North Adelaide) today. That was fun. So fast. caught a bit more attention than the doggy dancing that was a bit hard to follow and slow. I think if I put a doggy dancing routine together one or both of us would be doing a lot more running.
It's a pity your mum has chosen a dodgy bloke as a bf. Is that a pattern for her or just this once? My mum wasn't the least bit interested in finding a new bloke when dad died. And her mum was the same when my grandfather died (very young too). And same on my father's side. But I do know some friends who can't bear to not have a partner so they will put up with dodgy before they'd cope with being alone. Sad but true. I still think you could not have Mr dodgy in your home - meet your mum and him on neutral territory instead.
Definitely a pattern unfortunately. My father passed away when he was only 45 unfortunately, she was then single for about 5 years but since then it's been train-wreck after train-wreck. I don't want her to be alone, and I know she could get better but she has no confidence on that side. Anyway, she'd be very angry with me if she knew I was talking about her on the internet now lol so I might leave it at that. It's a lot easier now anyway just because I only see them maybe twice a year, so I have time to forget lol.
Ohh I'll have to look into superdogs lol - not that I have any time as it is . To be honest though, I think Schutzhund is perfect for Sammy because it combines everything he loves most. Prey, jumping on people and most of all partnering with me to do what appears to be a very serious job. He's never happier then when we're working. Could you try it without competing and going for titles, just for fun and see what he thinks?
Where are the pics of your other dog?
