Default What Would You Have Done?

My brother has two cars, and one of them needs 4 new tyres. He asked me if he could borrow $1,000 (toyota hilux tyres cost a bomb) to get new tyres. I said no because that was all my savings and it's going towards a new car, and asked him why he can't use his other car until he saves the money for new tyres. He said he didn't want to do that because his gf uses that car. She doesn't even have a job and it has been sitting in the garage gathering dust. My mum said she is disappointed in me and now I feel like the worst person in the world. It takes me so long to save and I just made my first $1,000. I don't know how to feel.

    What would you have done?

    It's a hard one hey.
I guess you would have to ask yourself if you trust your brother to pay you back and weigh up what is more important to you.. your mother making a hurtful comment to you, or the risk that your savings are lost.

So you hould be supplementing the chick he is having sex with? Tell your mum if she is so concerned she can give him the money. I would have told him to to tell his gf to get a job - my brother atm is here from OS. He is looking for work and when he gets work his wife and kids will come over. she doesnt want a job - and they will milk my parents as long as they can. When you are able to look after yourself - you should.

I'm with Occy. What kind of world do we live in where we have not one car, but TWO! TWO LUXURIES!

Tell your mum if she is so concerned, she can lend him the 1k.

I wouldn't be giving him any that's for sure.

Thanks guys - I have lent him money before and only got half back. I still feel bad because he is family, but when he has a car that his gf roped him into giving to her and buying another car for himself ....

I came home and spoke to mum and said if he didn't have a second car, I would of lent him some, but not the whole amount. But he has a second car so he should use that untill he saves the money. I haven't spoken to him yet but I think thats what he is doing. Thanks again guys, I don't feel as bad as I did.

You are doing the right thing Ally. Don't let anyone make you feel guilty.

I know it's hard when it's family and I admire you for taking a stand. Good on you.

Thanks Deerhound! My boyfriend has been telling me the same thing, and telling me not to feel bad or guilty. He nearly got onto the phone to my mum and brother because I was in tears and he was getting really angry (he hates seeing me upset)

My brother messaged me this morning and said "I only asked you so I didn't have to ask Mum and John (stepdad) to fork out the money"

So I wrote back and said "Ben, you have a SECOND car you can use!!" and he came back with "So how is Jade (his gf) going to get to her job interviews?" I didn't write anything back, but has she ever heard of the train? And she has 2 sisters who drive, and a stay at home mum who could drive her as well. So stupid.

ANYWAY!! I feel good about standing up for myself now, I usually always cave in. Thank god I have my amazing boyfriend to help me through situations like this!!
