Its really hard sometimes. I am waiting on a cavalier cross poodle. I am fully aware of what i am getting myself into, i fell in love with them years ago, and both breeds would suit us, so the cross with its looks will be great. I did howeer spend months researching byb and puppy mills, and am getting my puppy from a breeder that i am most welcome to visit, and am happy enough with the dogs conditions.
In my research i came across a well known victorian puppy farm, it even had advertised they had an open day! Great i think, they must have nothing to hide, wrong. I googled the visitors comments and found horrible comments, the breeders dont even name their. Dogs! And they have electricfences.
Unless you have seen youtube, it is incomprehensible that puppy mills could be so bad, they have to register their business, all those pens or sheds cant go unnoticed, so why does the local govt not visit and intervene? The answer seems so simple, so to see the cute little face in the petshop requires a big mental leap to envisage where the puppy came from.
I would really show your workmate the puppy listings, sway her with cute puppy faces and at least she can get one close by from someone who is registered fairly quickly. Unless she is like me and really wants a cross breed but isnt brave enough to tell you...
