My family is planning for a holiday in late December which would probably last for 2 weeks. If we're going interstate, we'll try to look for accommodation which allows pets, but if we're going overseas, we can't bring Milo. It looks like a high chance that it's going to be an overseas holiday.
I have come up with a few options of where Milo should stay for the time that I'm not there.
1. Stay in our backyard and have my cousin who lives literally next door to feed him every day, and when she has time, take him for a walk. Her family has had a pet dog before, and from my observation and interaction with them, there was very little commitment given to their then dog. I am concerned that this will be the case for Milo. They never took their dog for walks, never played any games, never trained, and the likes of that - basically just a dog in the backyard. Their dog is now permanently living with their other relatives who take really good care of her. Anyway, from this experience, I am not confident that they will provide Milo with the stimulation and exercise that he needs, especially since he'll be stuck in the backyard for 2 weeks.
2. Send Milo to a friends house who already has a dog. Of course, the friend I would trust and know to interact and stimulate Milo like how they would with their own.
3. Send Milo to a friends house who doesn't have any pets, but they are thinking of getting a dog. I thought this would also give my friend a perspective of what it's like to own a dog.
However, for both 2 and 3, I don't know how Milo will react to staying in a place that's not home for 2 weeks. Also since his typical rough schedule would drastically change, I imagine. It's also unrealistic to expect whoever to look after him to continue feeding him the raw diet. So I'll need to find a kibble that he will eat without going spastic and have runny poo.
4. Settle for a kennel. I am not really comfortable with this as it's giving an absolute stranger the care of Milo and completely different environment for him. I'd rather have this as last option.
Your input is highly appreciated. I don't want to go on holidays and constantly worry about Milo!
