I just wish everyone jumping up and down about a puppy being pts because he has a defect that will affect every aspect of his life would put the same amount of effort into actually doing something to save some of the 300,000 plus dogs put to sleep alone in pounds every freaking year here.
Seriously, how the hell can we save the ones that are sick, injured and with faulty genes, aggression issues, fear issues etc when there are literally THOUSANDS of happy, healthy dogs with no issues are being PTS?
I really think some people need to look at their priorities. Would you all honestly be able to handle a completely deaf puppy, through adolescence, through biting, teething, etc? I highly doubt you would ALL be able to, and why would you when you can get one that is completely healthy? Who is going to take on all of the puppies that are deaf?
Think about this:
18 Litters of Dalmation puppies listed on DOL at the moment.
Go with 6 puppies per litter - that's 108 puppies total. Say that there is 1 completely deaf puppy per litter. There's 18 deaf puppies looking for homes. That's 18 families to find who will desex their dog, who will train and socialise their dog AND will be responsible for the dog for the rest of it's life. Get realistic people. It may suck, but look at the big picture FFS.
