I decided that I really need to step up the recall training as we've had a few booboos in high distraction situations.
So today I took the usual liver treats and 3 big pieces of cooked steak from last night's dinner.
Very soon after we got out of the car I had an opportunity to do a pretty high distraction recall. When she came to me I exitedly handed her a big piece of steak. She took it, spat it out and looked up at me as if to say "What the hell was that?". I had to give her a normal liver treat after that.
But after our half hour walk when we got close to the car, she suddenly raced off towards where the car was parked. I considered calling her back, but I wanted to see what she was doing, so I let her go. Turns out she was trying to find the piece of steak! And I imagined her thinking that whole walk "How stupid am I, that was STEAK!" I don't know if she actually found it.
