I've been really slack with the training. Didn't use the clicker at all for a couple of weeks. I actually didn't even know where I'd left them.
So the only training I did was on our walks, but even there I realised that I had not done enough as Banjo ignored me a few times when I tried to get her to come with me after playing with other dogs or to prevent her from going up to dogs on leads. I just had not done enough recall training at times when I wasn't trying to end her fun.
I think it was the jumping up that jolted me into action again. I've really made no progress at all with teaching her not to jump up on other people and it is so annoying. I hate having to constantly apologise to people for her behaviour.
Ideally I should not let her off the lead when there are people around. But she is a young dog and needs a good run every day and I just don't have the time to drive to somewhere where there are no people.
So I found the clickers yesterday, started doing training sessions at home again just to make her keen, and then took her out to the nearby shops and walked her around on the lead rewarding her for staying calm when people got close to her. It wasn't ideal because no one tried to pat her or talk to me. But it was a start and I will keep doing it. I will also try to put her on the lead to greet the other dog owners at the off leash area before I let her off to play with their dogs.
And do a lot more recall training. And Banjo is asking me to make her do a heel occasionally because I reward her heavily for that. So I will try to work on that too.
I want to get us back on track!
