A friend let me know last night that the owners of the restaurant at our local shops told her there were 2 dogs hanging around there last night. Claimed one of them looked like a wolfhound and he thought maybe it was my old dog Luna. He obviously didn't know Luna died and also - she didn't look much like a wolfhound at all, except from having some of the wolfhound's wiry hair. She was presumably a staghound x wolfhound or deerhound x ridgeback.
Anywho, I passed there this morning at 9am and the dogs were still there! The big one was actually a deerhound, looked like a purebred too. Her mate looked like a border collie x cattle dog. Odd pair, but then Luna's best mate for years was a JRT...
The deerhound came to say hello to Banjoy and me. Gentle and calm as sighthounds usually are... Then they both continued their begging round as it seemed. Kept peering into the take-away and the restaurants. I had to leave them as I only had one lead and I couldn't have walked 3 dogs home anyway and I had to go to work.
I considered calling the ranger, but I didn't want them to end up in the pound and they didn't seem to be in any danger.
I posted them both on the "Found dogs" list on the Domestic Animals department website. Found nothing on the lost dogs website.
So now I'm sitting here feeling very worried about them. The fact that they were roaming for that long, had no collars and that no one called the pound to check if they were there (they would then post them on the Lost dogs website immediately) makes me think that their owner does not care about them much.
The deerhound really touched a nerve because there was so much of Luna I saw in her. I already want to keep her! So if she does end up at the pound, I'll be keeping an eye on her.
