I write this to reach out to responsible pet owners, as I know those who aren't don't invest time in dog training for their dog, let alone dog forums.
Please be on high alert of the dogs off-lead in your local dog park. Our beautiful dog was attacked recently at Cruickshank Park (Yarraville) as a result of a dog with poor discipline and supervision being off-lead. We know this dog was being walked by the neighbour's owner and with little supervision - as at the time of the attack it had been wrestling prior with the neighbour's dog. My poor dog got caught up in it all and faced emergency surgery that night on her face because of their elevated levels of fighting.
This may be acceptable behaviour on their own properties but not in a community shared area, where children and dogs play. All involved have the right to play safely to ensure no injury to child nor dog.
Choosing to let your dog off-lead doesn't devoid responsibility - it DOUBLES it. Again, I know all on here understand that.
Please, responsible owners who have cared, spent time training their pets to walk/play off-lead- always remember there are unfortunately dogs who are in these parks who shouldn't be off-lead. Please take good care of yourselves, your children and your dog through high supervision.
