My dogs are always fed before us as well in a vain attempt to stop them giving me the "pleeeeeease share" eyes while we are eating.

FYI, I dont get lame jokes...only good ones.
I have had a dog starve itself thin, and thinner, and thinner, no matter what was offered, and need force feeding. But he was a Saluki who probably have a more extreme temperament than many dogs.
It's not much fun to live around. Very, very stressful indeed. I like that my dogs love their food!!
And I have tried only having food down once or twice a day (in fact this was what I did for the first 6 months I had Sammy) but he stopped eating and was literally starving. If I have food down all the time, sometimes after lots of exercise it's like the urge would strike him and he would eat a bowl. If the food wasn't there when he had that urge, he just didn't eat that day. If he went to his bowl and it was empty, or went to where his bowl normally was but it wasn't there, you could get food but the moment had passed and he would show no interest.
On the plus side, he is ridiculously competitive and so the addition of a second dog has been the only thing that has addressed his eating issues. In the wild he would be fine, he would quite happily live on raw meat and has no problems with raw food or bones of any kind (and he can catch it). He just can't seem to stand biscuits or vegetables. The new dog eats bread - if it's possibly food she takes no chances and eats it.
I have just gone through a period of Katy not eating...She has lost 10kg in the last week. A 72kg to 62.....She is one bony girl at present.
She seems on the mend right now
Pets are forever
My gosh, 10 kilo in a week is alot!
