Ok, I don't mean to offend anyone here but I just need to vent.
A while ago I met my friend at the park. She said there was this lab wandering around, she had to steer it away from the road. We walked around the oval to where the dog was. She didn't have id on her collar and it appeared no one at the park owned her. (and omg she is the fattest lab I have ever seen!) So we put a leash on her and were going to take her to the vet when two kids said that she was their dog. We told them to keep an eye on her as she was very close to the road (across the other side of the oval!).
Then a few weeks later I saw them again. Once again I had to steer her away from the road. A little while later she left the oval and went behind the back of the local shops. I told them she had gone up there but one boy said 'oh no she's just in the bushes there'. So I went and fetched her before she was run over or something. I again told them to watch her.
And today two little girls no more than 10 yo had two retrievers at the park. The girls started calling them and lo and behold they weren't listening at all! One girl managed to catch 'Holly' but 'Ozie' just wasn't having any of it. It was getting dark and I was thinking 'this is ridiculous!'. So I walked towards the dog and he came towards us to see Taya again. So I grabbed his collar.
Arrrghhh!!! Sorry this is so long but do parents realise what is going on when their kids and dog(s) are at the park????
