The scammers get the numbers either from yellow pages or white pages AFAIK. They have nothing to do with the Do Not Call Register.
I think the way the Do Not Call Register works is that the company can be sued if they do not comply. But these people probably call from overseas and they don't identify who they work for.

Scammers make me so glad I only have a mobile phone! I do get some doozies through email though and its no surprise that some people would fall for them!

The scammer calls are almost entirely from OS. The local scammers tend to knock on your front door.

The do not call register cannot be enforced on people calling from other countries. They are not subject to Australian law.

I don't know why having an internet phone number that is not listed with Telstra works but it works way better than the Do not call register.

I get scam texts on my mobile phone - you have won some extraordinary amount of money in a lottery you never entered...

By the way - if any of these scammers do give you a URL to visit - be aware that if you have javascript turned on or similar - they can use that to stuff up your computer so I would not visit any website they suggest.

And there is a thread on whirlpool about it from 2009

And I have the "send error message to manufacturer" turned off. Why waste internet bandwidth on something that is not going to help you personally.

Sometimes the do not call register dosnt help anyway because they use random number generators.

Maybe it is also because I am with a small internet phone company that I don't get these calls? Don't even seem to get any charity calls anymore. They used to annoy me too.

I did have someone from Telstra call me on my mobile the other day telling me I was chosen out of millions of people for a special mobile plan offer. I gave him my standard "Thanks, I'll check it out online, no I never sign up for anything on the spot" answer.

You have to first go into the forum you want to post in. Eg. "General dog forum". Then you'll see the blue "New thread" button on the top left, in between the 2 green bars.
