Hey.. I hope I get some advise with a couple of issues we currently have.
My lab girl Jazz has developed a bad habbit of breaking out on a daily basis. We moved into our new home about a year ago and it is getting worse and worse. She diggs under the front fence.. powders and spays dont help.. poo mining helps a little while.. putting massive logs there helps only up until she calls in the muscle a.k.a. my giant Ridgeback Mack. On the sidefence she ripps out fence pailings. We do have to replace the whole fence line, but financially we just cant do it right now.. it ll have to wait a little. We tried an electric fence but the current isnt strong enough to bother her when she is in her frenzy ripping on the pailings. And to make matters worse one of the neighbours feeds her when she breaks out, he spoils her and he just ignores our disliking of him doing so. Most neighbours have been great so far, letting her back in when she sits in front of our gate waiting. Sometimes the Ridgey gets out too and a cute lab being out is one thing, but my 80+ kg Ridgey is a different matter.. he is friendly and all, but I couldnt blame people being scared by his size and calling the ranger.
We found out a while ago that Mack barks sometimes, a friendly neighbour told us. Now somebody filled out a suggested letter from the council letting us know he is a nuisance and that he barks at 5.30 AM for no apparent reason. I know that he is not an excessive barker, but given his size he has a mighty bark and even his play bark is very load. I dont think that anybody wants to really get us into trouble, they all know we look after our dogs, walk them heaps and don't mean to bother anyone.
I am now thinking to get a voice recoder and record the mornings, to hear how bad it is. Anybody ever tried that? We now give them bones and chews in the morning, to occupy them when we go.. but then I wonder if Mack then barks and sooks at the door not realizing we have left for work and wanting back in. And well, a Ridgey can be quite persistent.
And with our lab, she will spend her first day tied up tomorrow. My boyfriend went out and bought them both harnesses, but that doesnt work, so she is now tied up on her collar. I am not happy about it at all, but I dont know what else to do. Anybody got any suggestions?
Edit: I should mention we live at the end of a quiet close and one worry we dont not have to have when the dogs get out is that they could get hurt in traffic.
