I'm sure some of you will recognise this. Doing reward-based training makes you a magnet to dogs in a km radius when out and about!
I always have the treat bag with some chopped ham, chicken or frankfurts clipped on when I take my dog to the off-leash area. This spot is a strip of about 100 metres wide and a couple of kms long, with 3 parallel paths. And when the weather's good there are lots of people walking dogs.
Then I see them running up to us, my dog lies flat on her belly in anticipation of a play, jumps up when the dog is a couple of metres away only for the dog to run straight past her and come to me begging for treats. Some of them can be really pushy too! There's one dog that looks like a small horse and he will actually try to snatch the bag of me. Even nibbled my fingers when I put my hand over the bag!
There's also those dogs that remember their training and will come running up to me and then do the most perfect sit looking at the treat bag expectantly. Hard to resist!
And today there was a bulldog type dog who tried to hump my legs! But maybe that wasn't the treats, maybe he just loved me for me.
