This is somthing i had to consider carefully when choosing a Bullmastiff as my new pup.
My first concern (and still is for my mother) is they where bred for security work at private estates in Great Britan where they where specifically used to chase down and attack humans. This is not a reason why i chose this breed . The B.M's comitment to its family, affecionate demenor and his inquisitive expression, thier lack of need for a lot of exercise and a well trained dogs reputation for being great with children won me over. That plus the fact i have always liked them since i was a kid made the decision easy.
However i need to be fully commited to my dog because i realise they can be aggressive towards strangers including children and other dogs and are also one of the strongest of dogs who's size alone can cause problems. Its many potential health problems where also taken into consideration. To some it may seem like a lot of work and while i agree it will be i want to turn the 'hard work' into more of a 'fun time' to really bond with him. My goal is to have a very much loved pet who knows its place in the pack, well disciplined yet a lot of fun and somwhat intimidating towards anyone who wants to cause harm to my family or property.
I have a big job ahead and i really looking forward to every minute of it !!
