My dog uses her tail for balance when changing speed and direction. When she's stalking - she puts it down low.
When she's trying to get something to run she puts her tail and her head and hackles up and barks a lot - so making her tail shorter is not going to help hide her at all.
I read somewhere that drovers prefer dogs with white tip tails because they're easier to see in the dark/dusk. I can't see mine when it's really dark but at dusk and in moonlight she glows.
mine is the same at the moment.
Giant schnauzers are quite rare. I met them only at the schnauzer club days. They are really huge, docile, and very well behaved compared to their smaller relatives. I guess they can be very good watch dogs as well as family dogs if socialised (like any other breeds) very well and trained early on. The only thing I can recommend to find a reputable breeder...that will be a good start. Good Luck! What other people think about Giant Schnauzer as a family & guard dog? Is he OK with other kids, animals or visitors? Does he need a lot of daily exercise?
BTW I am personally against tail docking and ear cropping. Those ears and tail are important part of my minis' expression and his good profile. Perhaps I will add his photo to the album.
