I've read through a thread similar to this about Ankle Biter wanting to get another dog for her at-the-time 6 month old pup. But I just wanted to know more of the owner side of things when owning 2 dogs.
As some of you may know, I own a kelpie puppy, 8 months now. We currently attend obedience training at the local dog club and Milo has been there for 6 lessons so far, and we've both been doing quite well. He still has a few puppy habits like stealing shoes, but this has slowly decreased in frequency so I think he is starting to settle down (still got a while, I know). He's gotten to know the house rules like not going upstairs. But being a kelpie, I understand that he needs to burn a lot of energy so he's constantly fighting for my attention. This is ok from time to time, but not when I need to study for uni exams. Although I think I am socialising him enough with dogs and people, he still always has that thought of "let's play, let's play" whenever he sees another dog. I jog with him at a local park every day after uni where he occasionally sees another dog but doesn't play with it since he stays within a 30m radius of me. I take him to parks with lots of dogs every Saturday, and dog training on Sunday. Yet, he still thrives on dog company.
I am contemplating getting a 2nd dog as a rescue around December this year (Milo would be 14 months at this time). But I don't know if that will make it worse or better for me. I know the time I spend with them individually will double with daily 5-20 minute obedience training. But, will they occupy each others attention more and less of mine (so I can get some decent studying done)? Money wise, I know it will increase.
My main question though is, would it make time management for other things in my life easier or harder? How will 2 dogs compared to 1 dog affect the owner?
