My dog has always had a problem with destroying plants, in the last few weeks it has become much worse.
In the last month he has destroyed several hundred dollars worth of plants and their pots.
He used to do it to get to the pot, but now he seems to be doing with the intent to destroy the plants and he leaves nothing but a useless stump almost totally devoid of roots. When he has destroyed the plants he comes to the back door and sits quietly.
Anything new I bring into the yard he will destroy.
Anything I re-pot he will destroy.
It seems scent related in some ways and I've tried a few things that are supposed to keep dogs away to no avail.
He is easy to train for the most part but with this problem he won't to respond to anything I do. I've even caught him in the act the act doing it several times and punished him but he just does it again as soon as he is unattended.
I've never owned a dog that will repeatedly keep doing things it's been punished for, he just will not get it.
I'm really at my wits end here, If I can't stop him from doing this he will spend the rest of his life on a chain.
My wife is ready to take him to the RSPCA, but I don't want to resort to that as in all other aspects he is great dog.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
