Joined recently. Hope to find support from DogForum members in my battle to get the Tasmanian Government to rethink its legislation (which kicks in 1st July 2011) making microchipping COMPULSORY.
You may favour microchipping or be against it. But I fervently believe that it should be by YOUR CHOICE, not by LAW that YOUR DOG is microchipped.
When I find time, I'll go into some aspects of the new Tassie law in another posting and, perhaps, suggest action that can be taken by those opposed to the compulsion.
PLEASE let me know your feelings about COMPULSORY microchipping. Also, if you can provide guidance as to how to get a campaign going on the DogForum or networking sites in general, I'd be grateful.
Time is running out for Tasmanians with un-chipped dogs. Extrapolating from the half-dozen people I've spoken with who have un-chipped dogs, I suspect that there will be a high level of non-compliance with the new law and that a significant proportion of dog owners will no longer register their dogs because, as I understand it, the dog must be chipped as a condition of registration.
Hoping to hear from you.
