Anyone out there got any tips for teaching our 12 week old staffyxlabrador to please be nice to his sister, a mini lop rabbit?
I feel bad that the rabbit has to stay cooped up in her hutch all day when i know how much she loves exploring the garden. I let her out at every opportunity when the dog is asleep inside, or let her roam inside when puppy is outside, but the face to face meetings do not go so well. Buckley (the pup) is never agressive towards millie (rabbit). When i put them together in the same room millie will hop up to buckley and he will wag his tail and lick her. It's when she hops away that we have a problem...he runs madly after her.
Not much on google, but a few sites tell me to let them play when he is tired or keep him on a lead and praise when he is good. I have done both many times over, but it seems when they are outside all instincts take over and buckley completely forgets his 'gentle' command. It's at this point that i get scared he is going to hurt her and put millie back in her hutch. I've also caught him scratching at her hutch at times and there's no doubt in my mind that when he is older he will be able to break into it.
Would love to hear anyones personal experiences..
