hello.. i've not been here for the longest time.. but i have an issue the vet was useless with, so here i am to ask about my poor little dog, who has a bad itch and what looks like dandruff.
she's a 10-11 year old chihuahua/miniature fox terrier cross, we have not had her for long, we took her from a rescue group a few months ago. she was ok for a while, then we changed shampoo, and she started chewing on herself - badly. i took her to the vet, and the vet recommended Dermoveen oatmeal and aloe vera shampoo and conditioner, and also an omega rich oil to put on her food. she said if no change in two weeks, then it's cortisone treatments that might harm her pancreas, especially as she is an older dog. (!!)
so naturally, i do not want to pump my little girl with cortisone shots, altho maybe a cream might stop the itch? i have been using Stopsitch (tea tree water) which helps a bit, i no longer see clumps of her hair on the floor, but she is still itchy.
i have been bathing her weekly, and leaving the conditioner on her, not rinsing it off... and of course, a full pump of the oil on her food once a day. it's not helping, she still has a lot of dry skin flaking off when i brush her, and it's obvious she is still itchy.
i might add, we have been using Frontline spray, there are two dogs here, two cats and two humans, with only The Rube scratching, so i doubt it's fleas, or any other insect infestation, or more of us would be itchy? i really think it started with the different shampoo (Fidos everyday).
i do not know what to do to help my little girl.... any suggestions please?
oops.. it's actually Dermcare Aloveen shampoo and conditioner..
i have been reading other posts on this too.. but nothing has popped for me yet.. there was a mention of a grass allergy and also allergy to agapanthus, i am allergic to agapanthus sap myself.. i wonder.....
