I am really upset and I don't know what to do. I have had Geoff since the start of September. He gets along with every dog we meet, and so far, I haven't even heard him growl.
We have a really big problem. The neighbour who lives 2 houses down from us has a rescue blue cattle dog. Apparently he is the nicest dog imagineable, loves playing with little dogs, loves people, even loves cats and hates Geoff.
If he is off leash, he will rush Geoff who takes off in fright and bites his heels. The owner is always apologetic and says he doesn't understand why he does it, but he still keeps letting this dog wander down our street without a leash. Yesterday, it chased Geoff at the dog park, and this morning it ran about 100m up the street to get him.
I have whacked it with a stick and this morning I kicked it as it went past, but it is oblivious to anything but Geoff. Geoff ran home and hid in our garage and wouldn't go for a walk down the street this morning. He was shaking and wanted to sit in my lap on the driveway rather than going outside (and fair enough too)
I don't know what to do? I have asked them to keep it on a lead, but they insist it's gentle with everyone else. They are neighbours and have lived in the area for 25 years and we are only recent additions, but I don't think that is the point. I don't feel like I am giving Geoff the protection and leadership he deserves. How can he trust me if I can't protect him? I am changing the way we run our lives to keep away from it. We have changed routes for our morning walk to avoid this dog. Now we have to avoid a dog park if he is there.
I am really upset and at my wits end.
