i took the dogs for a walk tonight on my own (which i try to avoid) as OH had things to do and couldnt come.
couldnt do it without the gentle leaders which usually save my arms from being pulled off.
the dogs were behaving so i was just relaxing strolling down the path daydreaming lol.
all of a sudden a small fluffy dog came round the corner (off lead) about 5 metres in front of me barking and growling at my pair. harley and lily have never been confronted by a dog showing aggression and this dog was up for a fight.
before i could react and prepare myself for the lunge harley and lily were running straight for this dog, with me on the end of the leash, hand tangled so i couldnt even let go (let the man s**t himself when 2x 50kg rotties stand over his dog- they would just play). when they pulled they got my elbow straight and i had absolutly no way of yanking back and my other arm was probably swinging round like a lounatick trying to keep balancced. i did everything i could not to fall over (thank god i didnt) i yelled HARLEY! and gave everything i had in a tug and they stopped. OMG this little fluff bag still goin nuts and its owner finally came ova and apologised to me and picked up his dog.
i was so pi**ed off. i know i wouldnt take my dogs out alone if i thaught they would be viscous to another dog i would espicially not walk them off leash on a busy street if they were dog aggressive no matter what the size.
i had an image of my self being dragged face first accross the footpath until they stopped luckily that didnt happen.
now i wont have the guts to walk them alone even though i have done it heaps, we walk passed other dogs and go to off lead parks where they interact with others no probs.
now left with a sore arm,
any advise from others with large breeds to stop dogs yanking on lead when they see another dog, (they will walk without pulling after about the first 3 mins of walk when the excitement wears off)
vent over lol.
