Grandma's up this way & brought her 6 year old KCCS (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel edited to use correct breed, thanks to Myf & CD) "Jamie" along. Been a few years since we last saw each other.
We went for a walk yesterday & to be honest, after about 10 minutes of snail’s pace walking, I insisted turning back. He had to sit for ages before returning.
Experienced shortness of breath & started limping. Then just flopped down exhausted.
My dogs Scotty & Bindy were kinda like C'mon, what’s the holdup, let’s get going
It is so sad, she lost grandpa 3 years ago and this little guy has been smothered in affection & food ever since.
Her vet in Sydney told her the plain hard facts, start a sensible diet & exercise, or your dog is headed for an early grave.
Has a grade 2 heart murmur.
I know he's a fussy eater, won't touch the dry food or raw bones I use. Loves BBQ chicken skin and all, probably gets the whole chook after she has cut off her tiny portion.
So here's my plan.....
1. Leave him with me for a couple of weeks.
2. Booked into my vet for assessment and diet/exercise management plan.
3. Educate & encourage my Grandma to continue this program.
She nearly changed her mind & said she couldn't go a night without him, but eventually agreed it was the best thing for him. Was in tears when she left
What do you think guys, any advice really appreciated?
