Was never really allowed pets as a kid, and now I have the means I'm seriously considering getting a dog. Been reading up on the costs, responsibilities etc. not taking this lightly at all.
Living with my parents still and for the next 4 forseeable years (studying at uni). Have looked into the drawbacks of finding rentals which allow pets (for the future) and am comfortable that I'd be able to figure things out when the time comes.
My mum and brother own a Dane each. I'm ideally looking for a small breed, I particularly like the spitz types, Shiba Inus, Keeshond (too clingy and poor climate for an outside dog :c). And dogs like the Dane, Shar Pei, Rottweiler.
Particularly the spitz type but some of the others I've mentioned aren't the best choices for a newbie dog owner from what I've read (as far as training and keeping on top pack wise).
I'd love a pug but the they're not suited at all to being an outside dog :c.
Looking for some advice on dog breed as far as
- Outside only dog (dogs not allowed in the house, backyard is huge though)
- Can cope with the owner not being around for good portions of the day (there will always be 1 to 2 danes there)
- Fairly quiet or lazy, not too high exercise requirements
- Newbie dog owner friendly
Dad doesn't like Staffies (there's so many that could be rescued, they seem unfortunately popular :c) and mum doesn't like small "yappy" dogs.
It could be the case that I just need to wait out the 4 years untill I'm out on my own and can get a pug :x
