Currently only one dane is at the house, the other may move here later this year or next year. Spoke to the ranger recently, our property is just under the size limit to be able to have 3 dogs without a permit. What they do is inspect the property once you actually have over the limit to make sure they're being taken care of adequately etc. She said in her time as ranger she's only had to decline one request and that she approves 3-4 per week. So in that respect it should be fine.
One is male the other is female, female will be desexed once it is a bit older, my mum which owns the male doesn't intend to desex hers, I'm not sure why.

@Sierra: I've always quite liked Huskies but summers here are quite hot (consecutive days of 40-42C temps on occasion), haven't thoroughly resarched them but have had the impression they're quite active and can be tough to train (smart/independent?). I'll definitely look up those other breeds too, thanks :3
