Hey folks, my name's Joel and I have a crazzy dog!
He is a bit of a mixed breed, but mainly boarder collie (father), with a couple of other breeds from the mother.
In general he is very well natured, and will laze around, but at other times he is nuts. If he sees a reflection on the roof from anything, he will go crazy chasing/looking at it. He goes into an almost trance and you have to clap and yell his name to like break his gaze.
The other thing he does is runs and runs and runs. When we let him down into the backyard, he will continue doing laps indefinitely. A route about 50M over and over and over again until we call him back. This would normally be okay, but he barks and annoys the neighbours while he runs and I'm a little worried about him wearing his joints out. He also takes big run ups and leaps into the air and snaps and trees, the roof, and just nothing sometimes adding what I think would be significant strain to his joints over and over again.
When it rains as well he will just jump straight into the air the whole time snapping at rain drops, and if someone is smoking he just runs and snaps at the smoke.
Do you guys think he is OCD or something? Is this common? People have suggested putting him on clomicalm, would that help ease these sorts of problems? Trying to yell at him when he's running round the yard to get him to stop barking is just not working.
Any info/tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks all! Joel
