Just wondering if anyone sedates their dog over the Christmas / New Year period?
I never have before but this year decided to give it a go with Rox. She just absolutely freaks with fireworks (and our neighbours next door have them so that doesn't help them being so close). I went to the vet today and got the tablets and gave her half at 8pm, then another quarter at 10. I talked it all over with the doctor, the dosages and times.
I was a little apprehensive (maybe I needed to sedative!) about doing it, and I don't exactly like her this way but it is for the best. She's not cowering or shaking, normally around this time she's on edge all week, even tapping a fork on a plate will send her scampering.
I think it's caused some incontinence, she was a little wet on the tummy before and there were a few drips on the floor. I've taken her out for a big wee and put a blanket on my bed for the night. Other than that she is just very groggy, she can walk but stumbles occasionally. She pricks her ears up sometimes at the bangs but her heart rate doesn't increase and she really doesn't care about them.
Has anyone else had experience with sedatives? How did your dog react?
I hope everyone and their pooches stay safe over the holidays. Merry Christmas to all.
