Wow Box, will you be able to handle a Dane?
You had a bit of trouble with Bella didn't you?
And I hope its from a registered reputable breeder.
Danes a very prone to all kinds of genetic faults. You'd hate to lose another dog due to bad breeding.
Congrats though! I love Danes.
Education not Legislation
Yep, I definitely researched the pants off this breed, and I knew exactly what I was taking on before I even looked up breeders. I know all about the health problems too, I have prepared myself for what could happen in the future.
The only reason I had trouble with Bella is because I didn't know any better back then. Lacey has been coming with us to all sorts of places, and I have already taught her quite a few commands.
I would say she is about the size of a Beagle now, and she is almost too heavy for me to carry her anymore lol. Her toilet training is going really well, on about our third day together I was doing a training session and in the middle of her training session she ran out the door, down the stairs, had a wee and came back inside and went back to doing the command that I was asking for before she went away. She's doing really well.
Is there a limit for photos in one post?
I love Danes, had several of them many years ago, not all at once, but one after the other, they were all smart, far smarter than they look, but easy to train and have about the house.
Good luck with your puppy, feed a good natural diet and keep her from getting too fat and you are less likely to have troubles with her health
I have been so so so surprised with her level of intelligence, everyone is always talking about how dopey and stupid they are, but she is a really quick learner! So far I have had her for three weeks and in her first week I taught her sit, drop, shake, and high five. Now she knows - sit, drop, wait, stay, shake, gimme your foot, high five, wave, cross your paws, targeting things with her paws, and last night I taught her to place her foot on my foot when I hold it out, so now when I hold out my my right foot she will put her right foot on it and when I hold out my left foot she will put her left foot on it too, it's really cute. She is an extremely quick leaner, and she uses her paws a whole heap, I think it's a Dane thing
I think there is a limit to the size of the pix ie if you can resize them to 800x600 (or near enough) you're pretty safe, under 100KB would be nice too.
You can either load them up in the album here and link them or put them in flickr or photobucket and link them.
Good luck with your new puppy.
I used proban tablets on Frosty when I was in a tick area - it seems to have worked. The WA dogs that were there, got tick problems but they're ok now, I don't know what preventative they used that didn't work.
There are some spot ons that are supposed to work (eg frontline plus) but you still need to check every day including inside lips and ears and around the eyes and between paws etc. I admit I had NFI. And mostly I used feel to check there were no lumps where they should not be. We had several vets at our seminar so I watched and copied what they did with their dogs.
All the best with the new GD - at least her coat should be easy to check. Maybe teach her to say "ahh" and smile too. Most GD I've met are really shy, you don't notice anything obnoxious cos they're hiding from you. I never get to see them off lead anywhere which is sad.
I had been researching the breed before Mum took me, I knew that was the breed I wanted and so did Mum, we had already decided on a GD before we went for a drive.
It definitely wasn't "Oh, let's get a Great Dane because they're pretty and so big."
Boxerini congratulations!! I seem to remember you talking about Danes a few times when discussing different breeds, I'm so glad you have found a girl so perfect for you.
Plus, where are the pics woman???
