With the recession, almost everyone had to cut back on luxuries--including the animal side of things! I got to thinking, what does everyone do to save a bit of mulah? Whether it's homemade food for your dog, doing certain things yourself, etc.
What I do:
-- my own dogs' anal glands. Being a vet nurse, this is something I see all the time. And at an average rate of 24 bucks a pop to have them done, I'm glad I learned! Not the most pleasant of things.
-- clipping my dogs' nails
-- grooming them with my own kit (Wahl). With how often I clip Carl in spring/summer/early autumn (shaved to a number 10, he overheats ridiculously), this saves me a small fortune. (Not to mention, I can't stand stray flyaway hairs around the eyes/nose/ears.) If he starts looking a bit furry, I whip them out, and he's almost bald in a flash.
-- buying food in bulk, and doing late night shopping sprees. Nothing beats the last minute price cuts at Coles late at night! I'm often found creeping around, buying sardines and mackerel in bulk... I do this with the raw food, too, then freeze and store. Lasts a month.
So, what do you do?
