Poppy and I just got back from her first grooming experience and I don't have any IRL friends with doggy knowledge to talk to so I wanted to post about it here and see what others think...
I found this lady via her website. She doesn't JUST do grooming but a whole host of other things including but not limited to rescuing animals.
So anyway heres how the visit went...
We arrived and she looked all surprised at how little Poppy was. She commented that she was just a puppy in a surprising way but I had told her on the phone she was 7 months old.
Then she asked where we had got her from. So I explained the story and my lack of knowledge and she immediately told me all about puppy farms and how terrible they are but then said "you are lucky you didn't get a purebred as they have so many health problems" So then I told her how I knew a reputable and registared breeder near me and had learn't a lot from her (I have the secretary of Cav QLD on my Facebook) and she said "those breeders are the ones you have to look out for, the registared ones are the worst".
I wish I had had the confidence to say "I said REPUTABLE NOT JUST registared" but I didn't.
Then she asked how much I paid for Poppy and if I had reported the seller to RSPCA. She had about 10 Kelpie X Staffy 6 and 7 week old pups that she had brought off someone and was going to rehome (sell) but she said she didn't desex them before they went (as they were too young) or microchip them.
They hydrobath water was just from the tap so it was cold and poor Poppy was shivering the whole time. I thought they were warm baths but maybe I'm wrong!
On the plus side, Poppy's bottom is all clipped so now she can poo without getting little matts and dags! And her nails are trimmed and so are under her paws and she is all clean and smells beautiful.
But I'm not really sure if I will go back to her... Hmmm...
