We are about to purchase a pure bred puppy in 6 weeks time. Problem is that there may be a chance that he have contracted herpes virus. The mother lost 4 pups during birth and only three survived. One of them was very tiny, one is huge and the girl nearly died last week. They are now 3 weeks old and we had been advised at first that they were on antibiotics due to there being a dead pup in the womb. They are now all on their 3rd lot of antibiotics and the female had breathing problems and thought she wouldnt make it. Anyway, just found out the little boy |(which would be ours) suffered the same thing last week and the vet was called. he is now ok and on antibiotics. She didnt say definitely that it was herpes virus but she did mention it, and now when we talk to her she tells us it looks like they all suffered bacterial infection. Our fear is that we purchase this pup and bring him home only to lose him down the track. Ive read taht the herpes virus is hard to detect in pups and that it can have long term effects. We dont know what to do? We are paying alot of money for this pup and dont want to lose him in the first month or so. Just after any advice if others have heard of similar situations? thanks!
