sorry for the long post.
I have found out that my mother in law is putting her dog down.
Let me just start of by saying with love that she is a bit unstable (the mother in law)
She is supposedly a jack russell x foxie that she picked up as a puppy from a byb- she does not loom like either though. She is 10 months old.
She picked up the dog without telling anyone so I wasn’t able to advise or warn her on any of the usual things re byb, getting a breed that suits, not being in the best position etc.
Now this dog was absolutely doted on since being picked up, went everywhere with the MIL, slept with her, basically they were never apart.
Right from the start though she never had any training, even the most basic. Was let get away with everything.
After moving house a couple of times (she always does this, never stays anywhere permanently) she has found herself with nowhere really to go. (obviously she is welcome at our house and is staying with the sister in law). She is trying to find a place but being on disability pension, very bad rental history and a dog is is near impossible.
On top of all this the dog in out of control- it snarls as people, barks like crazy, she cant take her for walks anymore as she cant control her lunging and generally being terrible on lead.
She put it up for giveaway on gumtree to a good home and even I agreed this would be best for the dog as MIL had no place to live, no money to get professional help etc.
2 days later the dog snarled and bit someone on a walk and it drew blood.
Now the MIL has made an appointment to put her to sleep tomorrow.
I feel so terribly for this dog. The poor thing never had a chance with no training and the instability in its short life. Not to mention it is still a puppy.
Is there anything that I can do for this dog? or is it to far gone? Myself taking it is not an option as I have my hands full with my own and she is in Wollongong and I am in Adelaide.
She has spoken to the rspca and they basically said to put her to sleep as she will likely not pass their tests and be put to sleep anyway.
Is there any kind of rescue I could organise for her to go to?
argh I dont know what to do. Maybe there is nothing and the rainbow bridge is the best for this poor little thing?
