We had a gorgeous couple and their 2 children come here yesterday. They originally came to view Sumo, but Sumo was way too boistorous for the little one.
I chatted to them for over an hour...told them about Eddie and what he had been through etc. Eddie was absolutely gorgeous with the children...extremely gentle and just a true gentleman It was obvious that Eddie's energy was so much better for them as a family than Sumo's energy. He tried to greet the little one like he does with adults...not very smart
I asked them about their fencing...if they had cats (or any other small animals), because he HATES cats...work schedule...etc etc and it just seemed perfect. They had had a Staffy before...tick. They said their fencing was adequate...tick. She worked nights...he worked day, so there would be someone there with Eddie...tick. He would be inside with them...tick. He got along with the children and they really liked him.
A few tears were shed and off Eddie went...happy is a pig in sh!t.
3 hours went by and a phonecall. It sounded like this......Ummm Hi Dorte...we have a problem. I said...what's the problem mate? He said...Ummmm...Eddie jumped the fence and attacked the neighbours cat. I said...bring him back immediately. He said...yeah I know, but the kids are really upset and crying because Eddie has to go back. I said...mate, it will happen again and if the neighbour catches Eddie...that will be it. Is the cat hurt? He said...no, but he is saying he will contact the council. I said...bring Eddie back!
They arrived here with Eddie and I invited them inside. I said...I need to know how tall that fence was (they had said they had 6 foot colourbond fences), because if he jumped a really tall fence, it might be difficult to rehome him. He said...oh, it is up to my chest and there is a tree stump and Eddie used that to jump. I then said...mate, I told you about the cats and 4 foot fences are not adequate for Eddie! They then said they had already bought all this stuff for him...bedding, toys, etc etc. I felt sorry for them, but then again...I had more than once emphasised about the fencing and the cats.
Apparently Eddie had seen the neighbour's cat through the fence (mesh wire)...had taken a leaping jump and chased it into the shed...and had it by the neck. THANK GOD it is not hurt!!!
So...Eddie is back with us...naughty boy!
From now on...even when things sound "perfect"...I will still take the drive and deliver the dog the next day...to check the fencing and satify myself...for the dog's sake!
